hmmm... not sure if that's bad or good news. bad from a choice point of view, but prety good from sega' viewpoint. i guess we wont be seeing sonic on anything other than x-box in the near future.

if they do buy it will sega just become a front to sell microsoft games devices without the stigma attached to the microsoft label? pure brand purchase or full copmany revitalisation?

Nokia is trying to get into the hand held game market.. they have a big ass phone/hand held gaming device.. and they said Sega was going to develop games for it...

This is just a rumor, and actually there's another credible rumor floating around that Nintendo is buying both Sega and Capcom. Between these two rumors SEGA's stock has been shooting up.

Does not surprise me since MS just recently bought Rare http://www.rareware.com/

Nintendo buying Rare was no surprise, as Rare was a second party developer for Nintendo.

Quote from the article:

"This week, the Daily Yomiuri newspaper in Japan said that Microsoft has indicated to Sega that it would like to buy a stake in the company. Representatives from both companies declined to comment. "

There's also talks of the Namco, Sega merger. http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/news/news_6025266.html
So anything can happen I guess.

Less competition... a worry.

And it would seem sony and microsoft lust after only one thing... a pure monopoly... their one ring.

After Sega, both Sony and Microsoft will try and hurt Nintendo to the point that they can buy Nintendo, which they would then see as an aliance of the two towers, bringing them closer to the one ring.

And one large games monopoly = less variety, less innovation and less jobs.

The very strategy that has made Murdoch the media king he is today.
