View Full Version : Show Reel - Josh Bowman

I've just completed my first show reel after finishing up on my first job. The stuff on here is all from when I was working at The PRA (http://www.thepra.com.au/).
The video consists of clips from a few different ads, and a music video for the local hip-hop group The Hilltop Hoods (http://www.hilltophoods.com/).
I'd really like to get some feedback from people about it since this is the first time I've done this.
I'm really after advice on what shots work, what ones don't, shot order, music selection etc.
Josh's Jan. 06 Reel (http://www.j3d.com.au/video/JoshBowmanJan06Reel_sml.mov)
Thanks in advance,

Your reel is a nice start, but it needs more if you want to land that super duper job :)
Here are my comments:
Redo title graphics - make them sizzle, you never know, someone might hire you just by the coolness of the intro (I think that's why I have my current job!) So, go all out and make it cool.
Your first shot is great and in the right place, but get rid of the logo. As soon as we start enjoying the work, the logo pops on and is disturbing. If you want to give credit, put that in the end.
Your next shot should be the one with the two bugs in the circus ring, and then the bug on the wires shot. Also, it's hard to read the bugs actions with all that chrome, if there is a way to move the camera around to the other side of the wire and re render it, that would help a lot.
The girl with the rocket should come next. I think that looks great, but the next shot with the boy is too simple and would be better left out.
Then you should have all the train shots. The last train shot with the people is killer, more things like that would help.
Overall, it looks like you are doing some nice work, but you deffinitely need more to show.

Thanks for the feedback Hagop, very helpful.
Right, so I'll need redo the name and contact details bit.
The logo is unfortunately stuck on the title shot, I'll see if I can get an earlier version of it though.
I'll change the order.
And get rid of the tennis shot.
Unfortunately the wire mesh shot can't be changed, that's the final render, but I see your point.
OK, so I'll go and get started on the changes
