View Full Version : texture map blurriness

I'm noticing that many of my texture map are losing their definition when applied to my models. They seem to get a bit blurry, yet I catn't figure out where I can control the sharpness of a texture image. While I notice this with all my texture maps, its especially apparent with all of my bumps. They have a severe fuzzyness which really hurts.

The images are actually very hi res, and sharp when I look at them in photoshop, so its not the file itself thats causing the problem. And the problem is still totally obvious even when I turn of AA in the render globals, so I can't fix it in there. Also, I've tried changing the default filtering from Quadratic to None (where you actually select the bitmap file), but that hasn't helped much if at all. Max used to have blur settings for images, but I can't find an equivelent in Maya.

Is there a way to control the sharpness of an image being using in a channel slot?

You need to turn down the "Filter" for the texture(it is under the "effects >" arrow in the file attrib editor). If that doesn't do enough and your in maya 4.5, try changing the texture filter from quadratic to mipmap(mipmap was default in 4.0).

Sweet thanks Beaker, that's the equiv alright :applause: very cool.

Ok last question. Does Maya have any super sampling capabilities for a texture/material?

Supersampling for the entire image is just done with multi-pixel filter in the renderglobals. Supersampling is allready being done on the textures by default it is on quadratic but you can change it to other methods or turn it off.
