View Full Version : Cinema to Milkshape possible?
Anyone know how to get my .fbx rigs from cinema to milkshape? Do i have to setup the rig like i was setting it up for export to Motion Builder?
I tried a quick scene where i rigged a character with CDIK tools and exported to .fbx then imported to Milkshape. It didn't work, the animation didn't show in Milkshape.
Maybe its because the bones in cinema aren't actually getting moved, only the controllers. I'll have to try that too.

I thought Milkshape only used its inborn skeletal system. I know that you can import geometry into it bu ti think the animations need to be generated in Milkshape though.

Yep tried it a few hours ago and forgot to update this post.
Animation and bones can be exported from c4d to milkshape through the .fbx format. Although all animation must have keyframes set on the bones themselves and not on any controllers.
Well that's at least as far as i got. :)

Oh Cool. I didnt know that. I found another environmnet that is similar to Milkshape for Mac users it is called Misfits modeller. very similar to milkshape.
You making a game?

Well not the entire game. Just trying to win a project from a client that needs a milkshape walk cycle exported to Unreal or some other type of game engine.
Found another nice game engine export animation app called "Pacemaker". It allows one to make animations and export those cycles to DirectX or Unreal i think. Cool little app it is.

Cool i still think a viable pipeline between C4D and a serious game engines should be figured out somehow.

I think it might be possible. I was doing some searches on this topic and found a few sites where basically what the pipeline is, is modelling and rigging then exporting to a game format. I know that's how it goes with XSI and 3DMax. They just have plugin exporters in their menus.
So i also found that a few game export engines allow importing of .bvh and .fbx formats.
I know with the milkshape scene i am working on .fbx imported fine. So i guess its just a matter of laying down the specific workflow from c4d to unreal, half life, etc... You know, model and rig in c4d then export to milkshape using .fbx then export to whatever game engine needed. Not sure how to test all this though. I haven't got access to clients or software that could test out an exported scene i make from milkshape.
Can i import directly into a PC game version of Unreal or whatever?
Do you know of any highend game authoring software? I looked into Gamespace but i read that its riddled with problems and Calligri doesn't support it very well.

Also I know that Quake 3 is actually open source some guys actually made a racing game within Quake 3 (http://www.quakerally.com/)

Maybe this isn't exactly what you need, but if you are dabbling in games/C4D/Mac - you should be aware of Unity.

I made a citygen city, exported to FBX, and was walking around my C4D city in a "game" in about 4 minutes total (I had never even looked at a game engine before).
they have a demo available
