View Full Version : What Is March's Challenge?
bentllama 03-01-2002, 10:29 AM WHAT IS MARCH'S CHALLENGE?
How about straying from a warrior/apocolypse theme and dive into something less human/alien...
what about animals? or a bipedal animal?
or what about a monster? [be it harryhausen or monsters inc in style]
blah blah blah... just my 2 cents...
[ps: did not have time in february to complete the challenge...I am moving and starting a new job...]

I would love to do a bit of a monster/horror/evil modelling.
Lets have a challenge in designing something EVIL !!!! Im not talking your petty vampires or such, but real bone shaking evil, something that makes your hair white just thinking about it....
ahhaah just a thought... What you think?

the thing to remember when looking at harryhausen for "creature" reference...
to paraphrase harryhausen:
they are just creatures...they are only "monsters" when provoked...
something animal could be fun...
like setting guidelines saying it has to be part this ___ , part this ___ , etc...
it should not have to be evil...harryhausen's were only "evil" when provoked...
you could model a "before" or "after" confrontation state...
tee hee...

I'm down for that ... and you can bet I'll focus on getting one thing supa tight versus trying to pull off a whole fricken scene .... ;)

well interesting idea, but really we are all creatures and we all react when provoked, i want to model something "buahahhhahaahah " evil, that kind, the one that laughs at your face and spits blood as it approaches you while still chewing on its last victim.... :D

Maybe we could build the creatures like the Sphynx or a Gryphon:
Each creature has 5 general parts: Legs, Arms/Front Legs, Body, Tail, and Head.
1 part is free; do whatever you want. The rest have to have 1 part Human, 1 part Bird, 1 part Fish, and 1 part Mammal.
Although then you couldn't make a tiger head with an elephant's trunk...hmmm. Just an idea.

Well I'm sitting here, thinking - what the h***! :)
I might just as well make a fool of myself by suggesting a completely other direction to go with March's challenge.
How about some of the ideas presented when discussing Februarys challenge, when the PA concept took over (which came out VERY COOL, btw)... Medieval stuff!!!
I'm a sucker for medieval characters, settings and adventures... And let's not forget about magic, sorcerers and magicians... Ok ok I admit. I DO have Diablo 2 and Warcraft in my head :D, but I can't wait to see what all you guys can come up with in a challenge like that! Then you will be able to use your particle animation skills too... :) To to mention, some guys have already posted characters that would clearly fit a medieval challenge!
How about that?

hmmm, Medieval is good
How about we make it a DEMON, yes a demon, why a demon you ask well..... beacuse it can be evil in the Medieval setting, and it can include magic and stuff as well as being a monster and stuff.....
Medieval is good, but mediEVIL is better :)

Hi guys can we please finish this challenge first ;) I mean this thread will start others, and then it'll keep going and clutter this challenge, ;) don't worry we'll have some strong debating starting in about a week :)
-cheers
