Okay it's late in the evening so maybe I am being stupid.

I have finally gotten around to installing my XSI 5 update on my home machine, and when I ran the installation, I chose the migrate option to migrate all my options from 4.2 to 5.

I then tried running XSI 5 but got an error message saying there was no available interactive license. My license key file is definitely valid, and definitely for XSI 5. So I installed the latest SPM application, and when I tried installing my license there, I got an error saying it couldn't find my dongle (I use XSI|Advanced, so I have a dongle).

XSI 4.2 is still running with no problem.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I think I may have made an error when I installed 5, when it asked for the license server (or whatever it is) and I entered an IP address when I probably should have just written localhost. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I change that?

if you want to change the ip to localhost you can do this in the setenv.bat file in your application/bin folder i think.
it's somewhere near the bottom "set _SPM_HOST= ..."

otherwise i've got no idea where this error message might come from

Awesome, that worked. Thanks a million

Perhaps someone can help me with this SPM problem:

I wanted to tidy up my folders and moved SPM file to a different place hence I suspect that's why my problems began, as evertyhing had worked like a clock work before.

I re-installed SPM and 1-Wire (twice) and still in the Licensing Tool under Verify Status
>Spmstat that's what I get:

"SPM_ERROR (C:\WINDOWS\system32\spm\spmstat): Can't connect to localhost ("mi-spm"[tcp/7050])
-- (SPM daemon is not running)"

and under

> Check local Server get:

"An error occurred trying to checkout a license Token ! ...
---------------------------------
Can't connect to any SPM license server."

Under Setup log I get this:

"Checking for TCP/IP ...
TCP/IP is installed...
TCP/IP is running...
Backuping C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\SERVICES to SERVICES_SPM_1-20-2006_18-51-58.backup
Using iButton USB dongle
New SPM service installed sucessfully..."

and on Server log got this:

Jan/20/06 18:54:45 ALERT: SPM_FATAL ERROR (C:\WINDOWS\system32\spm\spmdib.exe) :
can't open port IBU for dongle type "SI0".
Jan/20/06 18:54:45 CRITICAL: fatal error: "
can't open port IBU for dongle type "SI0".".
Jan/20/06 18:54:45 ERROR: SPMD "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spm\spmdib.exe (Ver.1.1.11 [Build 1307])" terminated.

I re-installed SPM in a different drive (C) than XSI (D) - can this cause the problem? I do not have many other options left (apart from calling SI Tech Support, but that is on Monday and wanted to "play" over the weekend).

Wil appreciate any advise - many thanks.

Lesson learned: do not mess around with folders. If you do - uninstall and re-install (XSI+SPM) in 1 place, preferably Drive C.

Actually, after quitting the prog and restarting it (loaded some shader add-ons) I am back to square one - get same errors as previously mentioned ("SPM_ERROR (C:\WINDOWS\system32\spm\spmstat): Can't connect to localhost ("mi-spm"[tcp/7050])
-- (SPM daemon is not running)").
Has anyone had a similar prob in the past? Any tips will be welcome. Thanks!
