View Full Version : FBX Lightwave to Max8 import problem

Hi friends.

I am using fbx to export a complex (Many bitmap textures) object to max for a colaboration with a max user.

The exported fbx file imports fine back into Lightwave, with the bitmaps applied as it should be.

In Max, however, it imports without the bitmap textures. UV coordinates seem to be there. Is that normal in Max, do bitmaps have to be re-applied on imported fbx objects?

Thx

Are the materials on the object in Max and just don't have their texture visibility turned on? Try opening the material editor and getting a material from the object (eye dropper or Get Material button, then select Scene). This should show a material (well all of them) and hopefully it'll have the bitmaps in the appropriate slots. If so, then there's nothing to worry about. Just go to the View menu and select 'activate all maps' and hopefully all the bitmaps in the diffuse channels will be turned on. Or just try rendering the object. If it's looking for the bitmaps it'll try loading them all then.

It could be that the bitmaps aren't in an appropriate path however. If there are bitmap names in the slots of the material but nothing shows on the preview sphere then Max can't find them. Try copying them to the same folder as the fbx file when you import it in this case.
