View Full Version : How to arrange light in "Glass" scene?

Hi:
I am trying to make a good looking glass, Could someone give me some idea of how to put the lights, and some exprience of how to arrange the scene?

Well, here are a few tips:

- Put a good reflection map. It can be an environment map or a "real" decor, you need something contrasted. HDRI maps are perfect for this job.

- Place at least one or two lights with specular in an angle that will allows us to see specular highlights on the glass.

- If the glass is the main focuse, try to place it in front of a simple background.

if the glass is the main focus, put some grids with constant white material in your scene, to get some nice sharp reflections..

this here is for brazil but will show you how to place those grids for example..

Except with the post above this is Softimage not 3dsmax, so you cant Lathe, you need to click Model>Create>Surface>Revolution Along Curve. Then play with the Testure by giving it a material then in the property editor at Reder>Modify>Texture, where you can alter the reflection, transparancey,transluceny,etc.
