Hi,
first I say that I'm working with 3dsmax5 and I export my assets with standard shockwave exporter creating a W3D file.
I've tried to get advatage using "instance" instead of copy...for internet games it's good save some Kb.
Well, I've discovered today that if I instance 1 cube for 100 times...the 101 cubes are about 4 Kb (for example), BUT if I rotate them the exported file become 140Kb !!!??? I suppose that rotate operation is not really a strange operation to do....but probably it is. :)
So, If I have a landscape with 100 trees, I have to "only" translate them to fill the terrain....but not rotate!! well...sometimes it is possible to do this...but generally is a strange problem.
