I'm not sure to understand why Maya does that.
All I suggest you is to render your scene as an image sequence and not an avi. Then you can compile all your images in a video application like After Effects....

I'm not really sure
only thing it might be is that you have it set to single frame but then its letting you adjust the start and infinsh frames
i never render as an avi, i alwasy render as a .tif sequence

I've already tryed all of those... it does that when i render anything, even images.
Just wondering, after you render as tif sequence, what do you do to make it a movie? Its better that way because its a much smaller file right?

i had never rendered an avi with maya. only tiff (or targa) - sequences. so u have no compression (ergo best quality) and no problem to modify every tif/tga one by one, if u like.
u only have to import it as an imagesequence in quicktime pro.
good luck

make sure ur camera1 is set to Renderable in the Output section from camera1`s AE
or could be a problem with the .avi codecs installed on you system
dont use avi - image sequence are more flexible u can use fcheck for a fast test and go for VirtuelDub (search with google) the new version can read tga

Except that rendering .avi files in Maya end up HUGE, you dont have anything going wrong in the Render Globals.
Of course if you render seperate files, you need compositing software to put them together and compress them.
Render something again and open the script editor, and see what's going on, and where the files are going.
If you read something you can't understand, take another screencap and post it here.
