I'm trying to figure out how I can make a geometry object OR a material a light emitter in 3ds max, preferably using mental ray. I want to do this without using FinalGather and GI. Light needs to cast shadows as well but doesn't need to be physically accurate. I've been banging my head against this. I've seen how you can hook up this up in Maya and I've seen other render plug-ins able to do it but can't afford to fork out $1000 just for this one feature.
