Hello!

I never really read the technical forum, and wouldn't really know what to search for this problem, so forgive me if it's been covered before. I use Lightwave, and run duel monitors. Until recently both of my video cards were cheepo crap old nothing cards. I just got a Geforce 6600 to run my primary monitor, expecting a very noticeable difference. After installing it and the drivers, I opened up Modeler and loaded some models, but didn't notice any difference in speed. I then uninstalled the drivers and installed the ones from Nvidia's site, but still no noticeable difference. Is there a way to test if a video card is properly set up and how well it's working? Other than a visual comparison I mean. Is there something else I need to do? I'm running Windows XP and have a 3ghz Pentium 4. Thanks a lot!

What card did you have before?

I noticed a good increase in framerate with a Geforce 6800GT up from a Geforce 4 Ti 4600.

That should make a good comparison with the 6600 vanilla compared to your old one.

I'm not sure exactly what it was, but my old card was some sort of Geforce 2, like 4 or 5 years old. Pretty crappy, which is why I was expecting a more noticable difference. Is it possible to have the drivers installed incorectly and bring down performance of the card? Or is the 6600 just not that good? I didn't go top of the line, but I figured even a medium level card of today would be better than what I had.

Sweetdreamz, could you be more clear? I don't really understand what you mean. Sorry for being dense.

Thanks again.

The images on the page linked to are not possible on a Geforce2, but a 6600 should have no problems. So you can see the advancement in the 6600.

How are the polycounts on your models? Lightwave's UI is not all that fast btw..
