View Full Version : Hardware upgrade question!

OK, I would like to upgrade my system soon, but I don't have a lot of money. Here is what I have:
Dual AMD board
1 Athlon MP 1200 (around 1.1 ghz)
512 MB memory
GeForce 2

What (if upgraded) would provide the biggest speed increase? The processor seems the best bang for my buck, but what about working in Maya? Anywho, advice would be great!

i think with the stup you have you can work quite well.
check the task manager if you run out of memory.. if so, buy more first.. a fast CPU wont help, if your machine starts to swap.

if you think about buying a second AMD.. think about it, since maya does most things on one proc.. only rendering, IPR use 2 procs.. if you do that a lot, a second one will help.

only upgrade if you really need the power.. otherwise i would stick to what you have (and i saw ppl doing great stuff on a 650 P3 with 256 MB ram :)

hehe..man that's a setup i'd gladly trade for. I'm still running maya 4 on my p2 300... :hmm:
