Hi,

First I would like to know if it's possible to run Maya on dual monitors with a 7800GTX 256MB (maya on one screen , and a tutorial or Photoshop or etc... on the other) ? How does it affect performance ?

Second, I would like to know from your own experience (not reviews 'cause I read most of them), if you could point me in the right direction when it comes down to choosing a manufacturer of the 7800GTX 256MB.

Platform :
X2 4400+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2Gig RAM

Purpose:
- learning Maya (with dual screen !!)
- gaming (BF2, HL2, etc..)

The extra 5 - 10 fps in BF2 doesn't really affect me, I'm more concern with stability and reliability.

My Options :
Cheapest : Leadtek Extreme : 517$
Average : XFX, BFG, eVGA(ACS), Giga, Asus : 550$ - 590$
Expensive : eVGA KO : 646$
(best price I could find from Canada, I can't really order from Newegg because I would get killed on custom charges)

I was thinking going with the eVGA(ACS) from what I read, but I'm not sure it is worth the extra 45$ compare to the Leadtek Extreme ???

Thank you very much for your help.

Definitely eVGA or BFG. But eVGA is a bit better at RMA part. They'll do a RMA eventhough it's the user's fault. Both have lifetime warranties. And I don't think it's worth it for the KO edition.

Oh ya, for eVGA, they have this step up program. So when nVidia comes out with a new card, you can sorta trade in your card + cash and you could get then newest one. I think it's for 90 days or something, I don't remember - go check eVGA's site. And there are rumours about a new card coming out within the next 2 months.

So, your choice.

I have the Leadtek and have had no problems with it. It's a stable, quiet, fast card. And Leadtek happens to make nVidia's reference cards.

Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with the Leadtek, BFG or eVGA.

Sounds good, I'll go with one of those two manufacturer (evga or leadtek) depending on availability and pricing when comes time to pull the trigger. Thank you very much.

I would buy the passive cooled from Asus 7800 GT (if i remember corectly). It doesnt have a stupid fan, and the one on my one year old radeon 9550 is barely alive now and very noisy, and the same happened to a fan on my old radeon 9000 Pro, so now i hate fans. :P

Maya is not certified for the 7800 series GPU's..

Which I think is lazy because it should have enough power.. even 6800 line should be certified by now.

Seeing the prices of the certified cards i doubt its just "lazines"...

Also Maya is aimed mostly at film producing so that may be a reason why lowed priced cards are not beeing tested.
