Well I've been working a little bit in Max but I really want to start working in Maya. I've been told by a few people that investing some time in Max will help me with Maya. Is this true or would I be better off jumping into Maya with books? At this point I don't want to be wasting too much time by lagging. Any help would be appreciated.

well spending any amount of time in any 3d app will help you to understand the basic concepts of 3d, but i doubt spending time in 3dsmax will help you with a specific part of maya as the 2 packages arent very similiar , tho the concept is the same , if your goal is to end up usign maya for good then jump right in with books/videos or whatever , its a great app and i theres a good outlook on its future in case you wanna pursue this on a career level .
