hi all,

i just finished my new cutSkin tool for Maya.

the basic idea of cutSkin was to convert a smooth skinnned geometry into a separated group of single meshes - each single separated mesh ist parented to its most influencing bone. The result is a "rigid" version of your smooth skinned mesh - good for playback - easy to animate!

but you have to make something with the reduction process, it's too slow , i test it on my character that have about 90k face , it takes about 1hour and it didn't complete the process so i stopped it manually
should i have to apply it to my character after skinning and modefying the weights or i don't have to modify the weights?
also does the resulted mesh affects the original mesh { as a wrap deformer }?

mh - the one hour for a 90k mesh - should not take that long. i tested it on a 150k mesh and it took 30 minutes for the complete process. (50 % reduction incl. cutskin process)

anyway - the original mesh keeps untouched - so no wrap deformer is used to keep the skinning mesh.
