from MacNN.com

Adobe Systems today announced Adobe After Effects 7.0 (http://macnn.com/rd.php?id=39183), an upgrade to the industry standard tool for producing motion graphics and visual effects for film, video, DVD, and the web. Version 7 includes a re-designed, unified user interface, accelerated OpenGL 2.0 support, and comprehensive Flash Video (FLV) export capabilities. After Effects 7.0 is available as a stand-alone product or as part of Adobe Production Studio also announced today. The re-designed interface features dockable panels, allowing users to eliminate overlapping windows and palettes, re-arrange panels, save custom workspaces, and control UI brightness. It also features expanded support for OpenGL 2.0 by accelerating the on-screen rendering of 2D and 3D composites and delivering high-fidelity support for blending modes, motion blur on 2D layers, anti-aliasing, track mattes and shadows. It is available now for Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later starting at $700

Wow! It's shipping? Yippee!

I just rushed over to the Adobe AE website:
http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/main.html

They seem to have addressed a lot of the things that were previously lacking. Example, AE7 has 32bpc float support. Looks like a good upgrade.

Will it be able to read .iff files from Mental Ray? if not, fuhgetaboutit.nope. Just use .exr or .sgi. They are just as small as iff and hold the same data.

Finally a graph editor! It can now fully intergrate in an animation pipeline.

I hope it has real time audio playback. That was the most irritating thing it lacked in previous versions.

looking real good, hopefully the open meetings adobe is currently having with some of the flash powerhouses will bring flash, ae and photoshop even tighter together.

the adobe portfolio is shaping up nicely

WOW! A graphEditor! And we only had to wait until 2006 and go through 7 upgrades to get it. Truly cutting edge

The big disappointment, no b-splines, I was so sure they would be there after Adobe bought up CuriousFx technology.

The new video bundle is finally here! Unfortunately they seem to have picked up the same boring, impressionist icons like the CS2 apps.

Anyone know what the cutoff date for an eligible upgrade to 7.0 is? We just purchased 6.5 pro a few weeks ago. I don't seem to see anything about this on the site.

Thx,
Devin

Isn't the rotobezier the same idea as b-splines?

I suspect we'll see a standalone roto app from Adobe annoucend in the near future, featuring this very toolset.

The big disappointment, no b-splines, I was so sure they would be there after Adobe bought up CuriousFx technology.
