View Full Version : Graphire 3 and 4 actually different???
nglemb 01-17-2006, 06:45 AM Hey all,
I'm looking to buy a tablet and I know I want a graphire 4x5, I just can't decide between a Graphire 3 and 4. The 3 is 50 bucks less, and I can't see any difference other than the two buttons on the 4. Anyone have a reason why the Graphire 4 would be worth 50 dollars more?

I gave my dad my Graphire 3 and got myself a new graphire 4. I miss the size of the graphire 3, but the graphire 4 pen feels nicer with the rubberized grip and the scroll wheel and added buttons on the pad itself make for interesting benefits like using the scroll wheel for zooming. So far, both seem to be pretty equal as far as resolution and sensitivity. Oh, the Graphire 4 surface seems to be not as slippery as graphire 3 pad.
If you use shortcut frequently, and if your workspace is cramped, then the 2 programmable buttons can reduce your need to shuffle your equipment to access the keyboard.
The Graphire 4 also has the scroll wheel making the tablet more functional for web browsing.
If these are of no interest to you, then you can save the $50.

interesting. i bought a graphire 4 yesterday and the surface is made of smooth, hard acrylic. its an entirely different construction from my graphire 2. was version 3 made of glass? i cant imagine anything more slippery than the acrylic shell on v4.

I briefly had a graphire 1, that had that flip over plastic sheet, and yes those did feel better. However from 3 to 4, it seems like the same material, but there is more texture to the surface on the 4. Or could be the nib of the pen is different, I can't really explain it other than I feel like the tip catches the surface better on 4. It's still nowhere near the same league as Intuos surface. Also, if you really hate the surface, and don't mind buying extra nibs, tape a sheet of copy paper over the drawing area for a REAL paper feel. LOL trust me, it works wonders.
