View Full Version : Boots (WIP) ZBrush
WingedOne 01-16-2006, 10:27 PM This is a pair of boots I started working on in ZBrush. I started off with a low-res mesh modelled from a box and added more extrusions for detail as I went up in sub-division levels. For the finer details I used alphas in conjunction with projection master.
I tried uploading to imageshack, but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment. :(
(Edit: Imageshack seems to be working now, so I uploaded them there).
I uploaded a low-res wireframe and the high-detail version.
Any constructive comments and criticisms welcome.

That looks superb! You didn't hand paint that mesh pattern on the boots, did you? How did you put them there? I have tried Zbrush before and can't ghet used to it. I'm jealous of your work :-)

this is great,
is this just a test or a part of a larger project? My only crit is that the white colour makes the boot look like ivory or marble, i would go for leather texture rather than the white, less you wanted it look like some kinda of stone.
Either way the boot detail is amazing.

Thanks :). There's a plug-in that comes with ZBrush 2.0 called Projection Master where you can drop your object onto the canvas and draw alphas on top of it and pick your object up again and the displacements from the alphas are applied.

The current texture is just temporary. ;)

Here's the latest update. I started working on the texture (colors only, so far). I haven't gotten around to the materials yet.
I'm not sure if I'll stick with this color scheme or choose another one. If I go with this scheme, the yellow parts are going to be a metallic gold material and I want to use a more leather-like material for the other parts.
As always, constructive crits and comments welcome.

Here's the latest update. I guess it's pretty much done, for now. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/images/smilies/smile.gif
To do the reflections, I mirrored all my tools vertically and placed them directly below the other tools.
I then rendered and baked, except for the layer with the floor. I then went to the floor layer and used the clone brush with layers mode on to "copy" the image from the other layers onto the floor.
As always, any comments and crits welcome.

Hi, I was wondering if you had smoothed the patterns after you added them in projection master because they look like they have jaggies on them. Otherwise the boots look real nice, props.
