Hey guys,
here is my 1st still using R8. This comes from Adam Watkins book "3D Animation: From Movies to Movies". For anyone looking for a great all around book on 3D concepts and techniques, I would strongly recommend you pick this up. It doesn't show you how to use the tools, but it tells you why you have to do certain things and the best way to accomplish them. The book does reference Cinema as 1 of the primary tools. It has been out for a while, but for the new guys (like me) it has been a great help.

how long you been into 3d? great job, nice style you got there. When looking at that pic i always seem to get a feeling that someone is going to creep up behind that dude posing in the mirror, like, in some films... cause of the open space above his head...

ADD: Oooh! my CGTalk 100th post!

Thanks DC, I have been into 3D and R8 about 2 months now. I have done plenty of 2D stuff but my day job (engineering) will only allow me so much time to work with 3D. The next step for this project is to rig the character up and run him through his animation paces. I will keep you posted. By the way is there a place to post animations on the web for viewing/downloading?

One more thing the correct title to the book is "3D Animation: From Models to Movies". Sorry:)

nice job! the only thing that kept drawing my eye was that the light and the lamp shade dont follow the same path.

---I think you should give the pic some more constructive criticism,--
I must say there are quite some things that could be improved.
(I see a picture with a stick figutre in front of amirror, right?)
first, the picture looks flat, especially the reflection in the mirror has no dimension. something inside the mirror should reflect a hint od a roon or so.
and the texture of theLamp looks very 3D-ish and unrealistic, can have something to do with the Mapping or maybe the reflection of the material.
Also, the picture has a tendency to look muddy, maybe the light could use a little color so grey does not dominate the shadows but has a hint of color.

---not the light needs a hint of color but the shadow---
And my mispelling above means : a hint of a room in the mirror.
