I am trying to use some hdri images in max 4.2 for brazil.
in the manual for brazil it says this...

""""""""""
The HDRI Bitmap I/O plug-in is used for reading and writing HDRI (High Dynamic Range Image) files in Radiance Picture format (*.hdr, *.pic).
Reading the Images

This plug-in is a standard MAX Bitmap I/O plug-in. You use it the same way you do any other bitmap I/O operation in 3DS MAX. In order to take advantage of the broad range of luminance data stored in the HDR images, you will need to access the bitmap's custom load/save settings. This is done by selecting the "Setup..." button in the "Select Bitmap" dialog box.
""""""""""
but I can get the setup button to become active and it doesnt recognize hdr images... so what do they mean by it being a standard in max???

Am I missing something???

Download some .hdr files from various sites in another post, make sure to also get HDRshop to prepare panoramas and latitude configurations.

If you use Final render as well you will have to make a choice of which renderer to use as Max cannot handle both using hdr images.
Also use this link for a tutorial on hdr in Max
