View Full Version : Speed up camera motion
Heiki 01-16-2006, 09:47 AM Do you happend to know a plugin or an easy method to slow down or speed up camera motion (position and rotation) in max?
I don't need bullet time effect. Just an easy speed up. Exactly like time remapping in After Effects.
I found the plugin called Camera Switcher 0.65. It will time remapp the whole camera movement. But what I need is more complex time remapper where I can speed up and slow down certain parts of the camera movement.

Tweaking in curve editor changes movements between keyframes a little. There should be an easier way.
I have a perfect camera movement. It is 540 frames. But for the final output I made a draft out in After Effects. There is now a lot of speed up's (wrap like effects) and slow downs. Also animation is instead of 540 frames 270 now.
I used time remapping in AE to do it. So basicly I would like to have time remapping for max as well :)
Curve editor would do the trick but it is a lot of work an even thought the camera movement will change a little between keyframes.

I came to the solution:
- save your animation (File > Save animation...)
- open motion mixer (Graphics editors > Motion mixer)
- add max camera object to motion mixer
- load a saved camera animation to the camera object
- use time warp for time remapping.
Works only with max 8. I'm soo happy.

You can non-destructively retime any animation track in MAX via Ease or Multiplier Curves. In fact, you can create a single Curve and have them instanced across multiple tracks. It's the easiest way to retime animation without changing keys.

Thanx Brandon! Ease curve is really easy to use and does the trick here as well. So there are at least 2 methods in max how to do it. Through motion mixer and also by using ease curve.
