View Full Version : setting up the scene: solids
Is their a way to make ceratin objects in 3ds max 8 have "solid" qualities while setting up the scene, I heard something about rigid bodies, I did a search on this forum, and am still not sure if that's what I'm looking for (I don't know what it is). An example of what I want to do, say I make a few planes as walls, and a table, is it possible to make the walls "solid" and the table "solid" and use the move tool to move the table on the planes but once it touches the walls and floors it stops... yeah. Help would be appreciated.

So wait, you just want to make it so that when you move one object against a 'solid' object, that object won't go through it?
There really isn't anything like that. You should try using the align tool (or vertex snapping) to place your objects up against the sides instead (can be a pain, I know).
The form of this that does exist - the rigid body that you were referring to - is for use in dynamic simulations with Reactor, and doesn't really offer any interactivity.
are you sure...? that's... horrible! Yeah, that''s what I want to do, is it possible to make a script to achieve this effect?
Yes, but aligning your object using one of the methods Vormav described would be faster in the long run with more complex scenes.
