View Full Version : ignore backfaces ?
seb4d 11-29-2002, 05:22 PM Hi,
I'd like to select faces (or edges or vertices) of an object without selecting the faces on the back of this object.
In Max there is Ignore Backfacing option, but I can't find something like it in Maya.
I only found Backface Culling, but it's not what I want.
Is it possible to ignore backfaces ?

3 places to set this: Per Viewport, Locally, and Globally.
Per Viewport:
In the viewport > Shading > Backface Culling
Locally:
Attribute editor for model > Mesh Component Display > Back Face Culling
Globally: Two places to set this:
Display > Custom Poly Display
or
In your Maya Preferences > Polygons

Maya has BFC, but unfortunately no depth culling ability in the regular selection tool. So anything with a normal that faces the selection tool gets selected. Drives me nuts!

there is always the paint selection tool, I'm guessing you wanted to select a lot of verts or polys, and didn't want to have to click on each one.
I find the paint selection to be extremely quick
