Ok, here I am.
As promise I start my tread, so you can make fun of me ......... :bounce: ..........

As some of you saw the "boat at sea" study, I have to add someone at the helm.
Mona, (not our favourite sweedish furmaker) is going to be the one. The reference is a talented singer, middle eastern type.

Well mate, I'm very happy to discover your anat-thread... and glad to meet this new Mona side... less blondie... and vikingless :scream:

The high part of her nose appear a little be too strong and large... the forehead seem too small, but it's certainly less important if you give her some hairs...

I'm waiting for more now... good courage Scooty

Good start Scooter. The ear can be a real pain! Try this if you're running into a wall:

Hey - don't be so hard on yourself - that's not a bad start

I think maybe some volume in the earlobes could do good - other than that, nothing.

Keep up the great work now!

well... that also depend of the hairs... if ears will are not very visible... that can be sufficient like that... also depend if you have much time to do her for your animation... she will only view under the boat, always a bit far... or do you planed some close-up ?

Thanks Gunilla, you're very sweet

Scootermaya,

I know this progression is 2D :D but I hope it is helpful to show the steps I did in the paintover: :)

I used the following Reference from the Web:

That will be a great help for sure... really good Beckie... my thoughts... in 3d, one thing can disturb our perception between 2d as orthographics views and 3d in perspective... and this effect was increased while the focale lenght... of course, it's often difficult to have a coherent result between the both vizualisations... often disturbing, because a face was never modelled in perspective...

...nice gray head anyway

Rebeccak
01-20-2006, 03:59 AM
Thanks, Lolo. :)

Very true, no one models a head or body in perspective ;) but I'll paintover whatever render is given me. :) And, of course, you have to rotate your model in perspective to see it's flaws...but in any case, I think the main point was to show that the facial proportions need to be tweaked ~ the eyes are a bit small, the lips and nose a bit large and lacking planes, the ear needs to be thicker, etc. Also, that more mass needs to be added to the top of the head. These are all universal things to heads ~ and proportions are probably the toughest aspect of the figure to tackle.

Hope this is useful, scootermaya! :) I think my main suggestion would be to really study reference for individual features of the face ~ photos of eyes, lips, nose, and chin, in detailed, close~up pictures ~ and also to study orthographic views of faces as Reference as well / using image planes for direct modeling reference.

Scootermaya, I don't know if you're aware, but we have several useful 3D Threads (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=2897679&postcount=6) here which you might enjoy: :)

Nice paintover Rebecca! I think I point out a few mistakes from that progressive drawing.
I am using a model to do this face and she's got strange porpotions now that I'm looking at her and you showed me this...

Rebeccak

Scooter,

Thanks! :) I hope it helped.

I think what would be helpful in terms of using Reference is if you found alternative Reference that showed maybe a bald woman from a front and side view ~ this would show you the size relationship of the mass of the skull to the facial area. Also, I would find general anatomy reference of the various facial features ~ eyes, lips, nose, chin, ears, etc. ~ since these have many of the same characteristics that don't vary from person to person except in size, shape, etc. As a 3D modeler it's probably good to just keep a lot of bookmarks of Anatomy sites, Reference images, etc. There's lots of good stuff out there, only a Google~click away! :)

Cheers, :)
