View Full Version : Sub-Devison modeling Question
i am pretty new to maya ,old max user ,anyways ive found the lovely world of subdevison modeling ,my question is ,cant i do Polygon opreations (Ie , extrude ,Cut ,Conect .. Etc) in normal Sub-D mode? i know i can do it with Polygon Proxy .but that adds a whole other wire system ,and it confuses me too many wires.. too much chaos..
another question ,in subdivison is some ares it shows Alot of wire .this is also very confusing ,isnt there a way to make it like in LW ? i only see the Real wires..
last :)
how do i do Bridge operation? or is it a script or something?
thank you very much guys

move the mouse over your Subd objekt press Right Mouse Button then a flower thing should appear .... with a few options ... now drag the mouse right down (i think) there should be a field called polygon
then u r basic mesh should appear again now ur in oply mode
....
enjoy
hmm ,that wasnt exactly my question :)
what i ment is , i want to do POLY operations on SUb-D Model ,but with Polygons Mode Proxy ,like just pick for example face in Sub-d and extrdue it!

you can't extrude in proxy mode but only in polygon mode and to do this you simply select the face and extrude with the tool under polygons menu and just treat it as a poly even though its a sub-d

The trouble is, subd's aren't the same as polygons, they are a completely different type of surface(very close to nurbs, but with some polygon like qualities), so you can't do this kind of thing. They just don't work that way. The reason why they might have worked that way in 3dsmax is if you were using NURMS, which is just polygons with a mesh smooth(The end result is still polygons). HSDS in 3dsmax are much more similar to maya's Subdivs. If you want just smooth polygons like NURMS, then use the new "Poly Proxy" in maya 4.5.
actually ,u cant do it in max :)
ok so ,what ur saying is ,get a good base mesh ,with nice detail ,and when ur happy move to sub-d and Give it alot more detail and get it to look great ? :)
