This was my entry for the most recent CGChat Contest (Hero and Boss). I sort of got lazy and didn't make the boss. But I did finally finish my Hero! After the deadline, of course, but still. I built a skeleton for him but he is not fully rigged yet. Here was my original concept:

And here is my finished model:

Here are half-size versions of the textures I used:

And here is a link to a DIVX turnaround so you can see the normal map in action:

Finally, if you want to see the entire WIP thread, you can check it out here (http://www.cgchat.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23275&perpage=15&pagenumber=1).

I think that's it. He is pretty much finished at this point, but any crits or advice would still be awesome as I am always trying to learn more and I will be able to put that to use on my next model. Thanks!

Hey man.
Great looking model!

I wish I could critique it more, but it is virtually perfect.
The only thing that I can see (and it might just be because of the shot provided) is that there are a few wasted polys used in the eyes, which could of easily have been done with an texture….

Also, why is the worklog over at CGChat!
:surprised

Hilariously cool. The suit design on the mouse is great.

cool, love the model and concept, but im having a little prob with the texture map, it seams a little washed out, it think there needs to be more saturation in the shadowed areas, and a little more colour in the fur, and pack.

is that a rusk?

I love the retro sci fi look. Love the model and the gun, but I dont like the backpack. Looks like a sausage and a loaf of bread. I think his pack should be redone to have some retro-looking air tanks, with some little thrusters underneath. also, he needs a big bubble helmet! and a crashed spaceship.

I agree with the texture comments too. Some dark along the edges of his backpack straps would pop them out more. Really, it could do with some more contrast all over, especially along edges.

Nice work!

Hey guys thanks for the feedback! I will definitely do something about the contrast/saturation issues, i love having fresh eyes :)

As regards the backpack design, thank you for the honest criticism. However, my plan/idea behind it was for it to be more of an explorer's backpack, than a traditional space jetpack. He has a sleeping bag, containers for food and water, etc etc. Space Mouse resides in one of those convenient universes where most of the planets have a breathable atmosphere (one of the advantages to retro sci-fi really!).

I will try and get some new pics up soon with a higher contrast diffuse map. Thanks again guys!

I know this thread kind of died, but I did finally fix up the contrast and saturation on the diffuse sheet, and I had to build a new comp sheet for my website anyways, so here's the final:

Thanks!
