Here is a small video showing a back contraction. I'm wondering if someone is good with biepd in max 8, because I animated de twist bone and the interpolation is so bad between the key... it jag.. it make some twist on some frame.. I have to key frame , frame by frame... it make no sens.

Thank's to watch it! Hope you liked it! Really ore to come with true animation, displacements maps for muscular fibers contractions... :D

Hi!

There is another update.. on the skinning portion this time.

The basic skinning is done.. for the rest I will add morpher and skin moprh to correct extra pose. In this test of skinning, I have put to skin morph on the shoulder. More to come with the displacement maps and hair and texture.. and everything else... for finishing.. animation!!

Hope you like it

awesome deformations, and everything stays anatomically correct althroughout. This is definitely one of the best deformations for a realistic human male i've ever seen. Looking forward to your animations, It'll be great to see Arnold flexing his muscles to see how it deforms just like in your pictures and rendered to a polished finish.

Hi all!!

After a long brake of about 4 mouths on this project I'm back! And I want to finish it as soon as possible. So now I begun the mapping. There is for the moment: Diffuse map, epidermal and subdermal map, specular(one for now),bump, displacement. To come are, unscattered diffuse, another specular map, shiness map, backscattering. maybe more but will see how it look.

For this render, I take the displace modifier in max with a subdivision of 3, so a lot of veins are missing because of that so at the rendre final everything will be rendered correct.

The legs are almost done to, but needs some refinement, I will post them soon. Just a little preview here :)

Great work there. It is really looking like Arnie in his best years, some time before "Da Derminador"

FlaminGlow
09-17-2006, 08:33 PM
yeah i agree about his best years, looks awosome almost real except that feeling of plasticity or - i don't exactly know may be the last few small details that mostly all the 3d models must have (i mean the feel where we all say there is a mistake i can't tell or we say 3d can't do), others looks just awosome and like real and this is almost the best realistic model i've seen it is still not finished to tell but i can imagine.

don't worry all this is a complement. :)

AlfonsoMartinez
09-18-2006, 02:58 AM
It is great! but somehow the shader its too shinny, or too uniform shine... why dont you try to get the shine with reflections from an environment.
Im not sure.. you may have try that already... I just think the specular is to high and uniform.

Hi all!

Here is a little update on the shader, didn't work the textures for the moment, only the shader. I change from the sss fast skin to the sss fast skin displacement, to be able to use the displacement of mental ray.

Thank you all!

HI all!

Here is a little update. He didn't have bump map on the face for the moment and there is no displacement in the face for so.. it' for the next update.. and in color next time.

I made the face look younger, because he is about 27 years old(at his best) when he was competing, so it's in this time I'm doing him I have to make him younger.

The hair are just a montage in photoshop from a pic, just to see what he will look when I will have done the hair. The eyes brow are in texture for the moment but they wil be in hair later, and the shape will change a bit to.

http://www.jeansimard.com/biggun/Noir_etBlanc.jpg

Here is a video capture within my max interface with an animation rig to test the rigging. TI's not completed but you see the idea. He will have displacement maps who gonna blend for the muscle contractions at the same time.

The left side is not enought accurate compared to the right side for the moment. It will be fixed.

Here is the video.

His bodybuilding poses are so good and the chest travel as his shoulders are lifted...really not some thing typical seen with cg. This is what should be followed now:thumbsup:

It would help to know a summary to rigging tools that helped it. Is it all using standard max tools and catmuscle. Don't tell me that skinmorph is what made those deformations. Never used them seriously till now

As I said great work!
I may be wrong but, taking a good look very carefully, my only critic would be about the shoulders. Probably you used very close up reference pictures, since the shoulders seem to be too much descending, like if you were looking them from a little above. It would be enough to just reduce the trapezius (between neck and shoulder), and raise the deltoids (the shoulder itself), that's it. What do you think?

Hi all!

Infinite: Thank you! I appreciate, your work is superb to ;) Always a pleasure to look at, some of the more realistic cg girl I have seen.

Womball: It's just for fun and no, the facial will not have the same treatment.

plasticmonster: I will do a making of soon ;)

RobertoOrtiz: Thank you! I'm glad you like it and sure I send you a pm once it's finish!

And thank's to everybody else! It's always a pleasure to read your coments :)

It make a long time I did not update this thread, but he's not dead, He's be back!

I decided to do a still shot to finally close the wip, maybe later a little anim, but I don't want to spend a lot more time on it, I have toher project to do, like finishing my hulk, my endosqueleton, and some new work I want to do :)

So, here is some pics for references of the pose i'm doing plus other images of his young face and some for the lighting. Nothing is finish, but close on the upperbody, I will do the legs and the shirt and I will do a final pass after that, to be sure everything is ok.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/53d0be863d.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)

So here are some test render with different lighting situation and I had hair that I take on picture of arnold to put on my to see how it match, because he need hair :)

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/7934e9d235.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)

And there is a bigger render.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6e47ec8e6b.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)

More to come soon!! :D

p.s. I will re-upload some pics that are unavaliable in the wip.

You have in page 8 arnold with a relaxed frontal pose with the arms by side the body and now he is in a pose making triceps and biceps. This means you are creating several bodies or is it one mesh with several morph targets?

Looking very very good!

Hi folks!

Here is an update, with legs, the air are old hair(and the eyebrows are in textures for the moment, but they will be do in hair to) I did that I fit in photoshop, they are not the final one.. so don't worry with it http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/images/smilies/wink2.gif I played on a lot of kind of lignthing.. I post only 3 type here to show you but this is not final rendering, I try many style and I will pick up the best one after. I did a quick background, I will upgrade the texture with a better quality and all but it give an idea. And maybe I gonna do 2 shots, one in a studio lighting condition and the other on the top of a mountain, a classic picture of Arnold.

More to come soon, the end is near http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/images/smilies/smile.gif

I reupload the video of rigging I had uploaded before, here is the link:

Waaah! Right now the only thing that gives it away as CG is the head. Everything but that is just stunning! How i would absolutely love to see an animation of Schwartzie rendered! What I would also love to see is some closeups on those beautiful hands!! My absolute favorite is the render furthest to the right in colour! It just blew me away! Keep on going with this... It's going a bit slow ;) I've been following this thread since it started and I'm always very glad to see an update! The best of luck to you!

here is an update of the face, I exaggerate some part to make it more apparent to the render and I put less SSS in the skin, to make details more pop up. I don't lowerthe SSS in the legs for the moment...

Here is the result

WOW... this is truely amazing!!!
The likeness is uncanny! Great work! I'm really loving these renders... Absolutely awesome!

Only crit I'd give is on the skin shader maybe having too much SSS scatter in some parts - but that is really minor! Also on the eyebrows - but I think you said that you'd be doing hair for them?? In any case - it's looking stellar!

I do have a couple questions for my curiousity though - is it possible that we can see the mesh you are rendering? Cuz I'm wondering if you're displacing the detail or just rendering the high res mesh... Also - for your maps - how are your breaking up the model to get the required texture resolution throughout the model?

I'd really appreciate you sharing.... Thanks alot!

Lookin forward to seeing him moving if you should choose to animate...

Keep up the excellent work! 5 Stars! *****
Bless.

Should'nt his thumbs be outside his hands, like not grabbing them? Just a small crit for you :)

And yeah, also, I must say that the lightning you had before (the upper right one, two posts back) was more appealing to me. Even though you might have lost some detail in that render you surely gained realism.

Thank you all for those kind words :D

chindian: I have 3 texture for the body, so one for the upper body and one for each legs and it's displacement maps applyed on it, not the higres version, I will make a making of after :) and the SSS was to strong in the legs, I slow it down as I did for the upperbody, have a look at the latest render.

INFINITE : Thank you dude! I appreciate it! I love your work to!

The eRK: the other render had a pass in photoshop, a filter, that's also why it look different.. but this blurred the image, and loose even more details. With the new lighting, I can show off almost all the details.

Here is a big render, I know Hair and eyebrows suck's, they are not done, this is just to get an idea.. I will do it in the next day ;) I had tension in the texture where skin skin is strech or under pression, because de flow of blood is changing ;)

Hmmm, this is like an eye test. Anyway, I think I like the one on the bottom right of the second image. It's kind of hard to tell which would look more natural without it being on the head, but I'd say the second set of hairs overall look more natural.

airun71
08-04-2008, 03:25 PM
Well, let me tell you that you are doing a superb stunning job! :arteest:
I hope I will achieve such result someday... :D

I agree with Androidmonkey that the second set of hair look a bit more natural;
I would suggest you to try a mix of wave and soften look, that seems to be the right direction to achieve a realistic natural look.

I hope that by the overall impression you may accept some suggestions I have in mind that may help you somehow.
The body itself has an excellent look and structure of every aspect, shape, color density, volume etc.. exept for the toe of left foot, that seems to be unnaturally too long (maybe coz of deformation?)
I also see you are experimenting different kind of skin colors and effects, that's great, and probably it's still a work in progress, but I'd tell I feel like the face still has some sort of artificial look, I mean, it seems to be made of plastiline or any other synthetic material, especially the nose and the eyes.
It's a hard work to give the proper look to such parts, but I believe that as you did for the body, you can do much better for the face

I would suggest to try soften the black hole effect in the nose hole (I don't know the name in english), that usually wouldn't look completely black but traslucent darker skin color with some fur maybe. And also (talking about skin color), the nose may have some traslucent pinky/brown/dark red reflections of blood running through the capillary.
Then I'd suggest some slightly added shadows around the eyes, sort of purple/brown/yellow/grey, that resemble the blood under the skin same as for the nose, and the membrane.
Ok, that's all for now.

Keep it up!!!

So I can see you corrected the color of the hair to a dark brown without so many variation one, instead all those green with great variation you posted to fool us LOL
That is the correct color for Arnold. Hair is just now incredible. I will love to see the hair roots, just a capture of the viewport if you please, because I wonder how much roots splines you created for it look so wonderful, I suppose the number must be around 170.

Here is a screenshot of the hair, but I don't have too many hair guide, not 170,maybe 40 I don't know. Was it you're question? And in multistrand parameter count I put 35 , I also add a many maps to help me to get that look, without the maps, I was unable.

Thanks for the view of the splines (hair guides). Great!. I was very curious about how many you used.
A trick for speeding hair renders is in the effects dialog where you choose "mr prim" just to the right you see voxels at 5. Changing it to 1 speed near 2x with same quality. Perhaps you didn't know.

This thread made me to try muhHair and it looks very well. Just rendering now while I write this. You talk about you used maps to make look better the hair. Are you talking about maps in the muhHair shader no?

Wow, incredible work! Very inspiring! I just went through the 10 pages of WIP renders and the progression is stunning!

Just a suggestion, and sorry if this is completely stupid, lol, very new to character modeling/textureing. Anyway, I was just thinking about the dark spots in your render, like on the left arm; you might want to lighten those areas up slightly to show the subsurface scattering of the light through the skin.

You could also do that in the nose, by the nostrals as the walls of the nose are quite thin and would have a redish glowish glow of sorts. And in the skin at the back of the right knee, thats another area where the skin would be thin enough that lots of light would lighten up the skin there.

I was playing around in photoshop comparing rough versions of subsurface scattering and I think it would add more realism, but as I said you will probably want to take what I say with a few grains of salt, haha.

I will be going to an open lab in the morning and I might try to play around with the lighting some more and may post up some rough examples that may explain myself better!

I think he looks a little too shiny now, tone the specularity down a bit. Perhaps also boost the colour of his skin a little; and to make it more realistic, add some colour variation into his skin. As it stands, upon close examination you can tell that it's C.G. :D

Amazing work though, keep at it. :)

This is so amazing! I can look at these images of yours for hours!!

My only critique would be about the SSS on his face/head. Just as on the rest of the body it seems to be too strong on some of your renders.

I'd love to hear some tips you might have on lighting and skin rendering! I'm currently working on recreating my girlfriend in 3d, so both lighting and skin is very important to get right. I've come a very long way, if I might say so, since my Tom Cruise WIP (wich is a few years old now), but most of what I've learned so far is from testing different settings myself. After seeing these renders I understand that I still have some way to go before nailing down total realism, but since you're pretty much there already I would be more than greatful to be able to learn from you! And I'm sure I'm not the only one either!!

Every render of yours is a piece of art! Please keep this up for as long as you can!

Cheers!

This is epic bad ass of epic proportions! I've been watching you progress since the very beginning. Cannot believe that: a) you have not finished, but also b) you still find inspiration to continue!

It's clear you've put in nearly 100% at every turn: modeling, texturing, shading, and lighting. The skin shader and new lighting setups look terrific. You've nailed the modeling down from the micro skin pore detail and veins, all the way up to shaping and refining all of the muscles.

There's not a whole lot I see to improve upon. However, to me, it looks like the top of his head is way too flat. Perhaps the nose could use more definition as well. Would LOVE to see this finished with some eyes and the hair style seen in the beginning of the first Terminator movie! Good luck and keep us posted!

Any possibility that you might share the Vray shader or a screengrab of the settings of the Vray SSS2 shader?? I've been trying and trying and trying to achieve something like that after seeing your shader. No luck.....so, if you might share it with us so we...I....can learn something, that'd be great.
