View Full Version : Trying to merge two meshes

I was wondering if I could get some pointers on mergeing two meshes? I have tried using boolean, connect, shapemerge and many combinations of ther things, but all seem to leave some form of artifact that I don't like.

I would like to create one single mesh with one top and one bottm from two meshes similar to these. I am trying to put this mountain into the realatively flat mesh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take the mesh on the right, go into Edge SO mode, click Select Open Edges, click Create Shape From Edges, use the resulting spline to shapemerge the mesh on the left, move the mesh on the right over the resulting hole, use Target Weld and work around the gap closing it all up.

Tedious work, but easy, and I can't see any way to do it more "automatically".

I did go so far as to using the shape merge, but was trying to avoid the tedious work.

If that is the only way then that is the way :)

Thanks for the post, I really appreciate getting a reply.

Just a thought.
You could make a zdepth render of the mountain and use the resulting bitmap as a displacement map on the flat plain.

That works, but what i am trying to do is: i have a library of meshes similar to the mountain looking mesh, and I merge many of them into the base mesh, some of them overlapping. So what i am trying to do is find a technique for merging them in.

I use this to create a variety of landscapes.

I think you are on to something though. I am going to try something using this.

if you have a bunch of stuff that you want to do all at once...power booleans is a $90 plugin...but you could demo it long enough to get it all done. it's very very clean....

Power Booleans worked!!!

I am going to purchase it because it is a great utility for complex booleans such as the one I had. The only issue that I found (which is understandable) is that the meshes have to be valid.

Thanks alot guys for the help.
