Does anyone know if theres a way to freeze a sub-d object with only smoothing, but no actual sub-division? Like setting sub-d level to 1 in lightwave. I want to be able to do this so i have a base for my low poly models to render normals maps without having to remodel stuff.

You could play around with Smooth (shift+s - deform tab) and see if that gives you what you need. Let's say : Strenght 1.0 / Iterations 10

It is possible to do the same thing in modo...

1) Use shift-tab to make modo use the Lightwave Subpatch algorithim.
2) Right click on the mesh layer and set the subdivision to 1
3) Freeze
