Hey,

Okay, so I'm working in 3ds max 8, and I'm trying to make a very detailed dress. Actually, it's a wedding dress. A dress with lasing, the mesh like material, oak leaves sewn in. I can not figure out the best way to model it. I mean, I assume the built in clothing maker in 8 isn't up to doing that job, but even so... splines?

Thank you,

hobo

The cloth in max 8 is certainly up to the level of being used to create things such as wedding dresses. Instead of using textures for the lace depending on what type of lace it is you could look into the turbo training dvds on cloth as they have a thing on creating chain mail which i guess the same technique could be used. Other than that opacity maps would work fine, look into what max cloth can do because its pretty darn powerful, miles ahead of other things in the program thats for sure.

You can use Garment Maker to make the basic dress. You can use this for simulation. You can also use it as a base for a more complex model which can contain all the fine details. After you have simulated the base version, you can SkinWrap the complex model on top. (see the Turbosquid training DVD by Paul Hormis for extensive help on this).
