While the animation in "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" was top notch, I thought the film dragged quite a bit in some spots, and failed to capture the same feeling of the short films that came before it (especially the very brilliant "The Wrong Trousers").I thought "Madagascar" was the stand out animated film of the year, and audiences seem to agree.

Congratulations to Wallace and Grommet, it deserves all the awards it gets! Oh and Madagascar was s**t on a stick, it should be locked away in a cold dark dungeon and only shown as how to not do a feature animation. It was only slightly better than that other turd, Shark Tale.

well done nick park and the gang at ardman. Wallace and Grommet was he best animatio of 2005 by far. don`t even think madagascar should have been in the running. it hd some nice gags and some nice animation but the story was so thin and then ended up having no real ending it was kind of a waste. lots of eye candy but no filling.

Did you even see "Madagascar"? A lot of other people did. Have a look at the box office data for the two films:
"Madagascar"
Released in US May 27, 2005
Total US Gross $193,166,575
Production Budget $75,000,000
Worldwide Gross $525,166,575
MPAA Rating PG for mild language, crude humor and some thematic elements
VS.
"Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit"
Released in US October 5, 2005 (limited), October 7, 2005 (expansion to wide release)
Total US Gross $56,201,000
Worldwide Gross $179,681,000
MPAA Rating G
I'm not saying Were-Rabbit was horrible, just not as fun as the shorts that came before it.
While box office data alone certainly doesn't prove if a film is good or not, your statement that "Madagascar" was "s**t on a stick" would be disputed by millions of movie goers world wide.

W&G was really good, awesome characters and the animation for Gromit was very well done, especially since he never said a word.
Shark tale characters practically had feet, hands, fingers... were there even fish?
I did like what i saw of Madagascar, but the celebrity voices did distract a bit and the musical numbers dragged on and were a bit gimicky.

Yes unfortunatly I have seen Madagascar. Dreamworks idea of an animated film - gather a group of famous film actors (as many as you can cram into a script), dont bother with a story and just have loads of fancy effects and boring characters.. with the odd song sung by whoever is in the charts at the time.
Madagascar was rubbish, the film sold itself on the fact it had 4 very famous film stars as the voices. Half the trailer was staring 'this famous actor' as 'this character', then the next actor, and the next. Story anyone ?
The plot was boring and nothing really happened. They tried to touch on interesting issues like how a lion would react when it no longer lives in a Zoo. That it might start to attack his friends and be afriad of himself. Instead of taking this further they decided to have a 20 minute song with various animals doing the singing.
Pathetic and crap!
It might have done well at the box office, but making alot of money is no indication as to whether its a good film or not.
edit - Just like to add that Shrek is very different, great films.
I don't really understand the exitement of the wallace and grommit feature film. Sure it was nice, but as an adult I didn't get that much out of it like I got from Tim Burtens Corpse Bride (for example). Now that was truly an enjoyable movie.

On a related note, Narnia won the Best Family Film at Critics' Choice Awards. :)
