View Full Version : Gorillaz Toon Shading

I've searched the forums and the pmg site in regards to the rendering of the Gorlliaz. I'm trying to find out if those videos were animated in Messiah and then rendered in Lightwave or was it all done in Messiah Studio?
99% sure it was lightwave.

That's right, the videos were animated in either LW or messiah depending on what the scene needed and rendered in LW. The vast majority of the character animation is traditional 2D drawn animation, with 3D elements tracked on. Here's some info about the Feel Good Inc video... http://www.newtek-europe.com/uk/community/lightwave/moulineau/1.html
The recent MTV performance was animated and rendered in XSI.

Thanks :) ...
Im more confused now then before I posted  as I'm assuming one of the vids were done using Messiah. But I'm good thanks again.
I am confident that Messiah can mimic any toon "look" out there. If you want to post an example of something you are trying to acheive I'd be happy to mock something up for you.

Ooo, Ooo... me too!
BTW, Wegg, how's those render tuts coming? :D
I wanna see that!
Well he contacted me privatly and what he wanted and what is possible right now are very different. I do believe that Messiah's shaders are capable of creating toon like surfaces that are equal to most toon renderers on the market but they can never replace toon boom or flash in look and feel.
