View Full Version : New Samsung LCD Display is ringer for Wacom Cintiq ... sorta

Not sure if this allows pressure sensitivity, or if the pen uses a battery. However, judging from the stand, it appears to be fully adjustable to a variety of writing/drawing positions.
Note: a closer examination of the picture reveals that the drawing ink width is uniform. So no hint of pressure sensitivity yet...

Judging by the full article I wouldn't say that it has pen pressure, unless they're trying out some novel approach to it. Apparently the method by which the "tablet" works is through two antennae that gauge the pen's location. Though, I don't know how they'd be able to tell if a pen was touching the screen. So, there could be the possibility that there's some type of detection on the surface of the actual display, but I'd think it to be unlikely. I think this is just Samsung's leap onto the bandwagon of having displays that double as a dry erase board... much like the notebook computers that support similar functionality--something more practical for business individuals, not for artists.
But hey, I could be wrong; however, the fact that they didn't mention anything about pressure sensitivity leads me to believe that Samsung's #1 target audience isn't CG artists--since sensitivity is one hell of a factor in the choice of tablets. ;)
Once again, this is all just speculation on my part.
