View Full Version : Poster size image rendered, but can not be opened!!
sepehr 01-11-2006, 04:26 PM Hi;
I had an image rendered for a poster in 11800x8800 pixels resolution in tiff format using Maya 6 software renderer .
Now after a day I have a file that’s 260Mb and has no extension in images folder:
BigCloudsAPoster_StormyCloudsCamShape_tmp
When I try to open it using Fcheck it shows the picture but renaming the file to BigCloudsAPoster_StormyCloudsCamShape_tmp.tiff, photoshop can not load it. It says the format is not supported.
I guess it is in Maya IFF format, but how can I open it in Photoshop?
I tried to use it as background and re-render it in Maya but it says that file resolution is not supported and the file might be corrupted.
What should I do now?
Best Regards
Sepehr

Sounds like you have a serious problem. Try opening up the image in Fcheck again, but this time try another format such as RLA, BMP, or if anything JPEG. I realize the loss of quality with JPEG but if it works, it might save you a day or so of re-rendering. Try opening it up in Photoshop and then right away save as PSD format. If none of this works then you might just have to re-render. In that case make sure in the Render Globals in Maya to have it saved to another format than iff.

A while ago I rendered out a huge poster that was 14,000 x something rather.. Pretty massive though.. Had the same problem.
The only way around it for me, was to rename the file with .tif on the end and open it with an image viewer called XnView. Then export the image back out as a tif file.
I have no idea where you can find XnView, I hadn't heard of it before untill I started working.
Seemed to work sweet though.. Good luck, hope you can save your giant poster!

Thanks.
I'm downloading XnView from www.xnview.com to see if it helps...

There is a photoshop plugin for reading Maya IFF files on alias's site.

I guess it is in Maya IFF format, but how can I open it in Photoshop?
If I had a penny for every time someone has asked this in the last five years, I'd have a LOT of pennies! :D
There is a plugin on the Photoshop installation CD for opening IFF files in Photoshop. It doesn't install by default so you have to go look on the disk in the extras (Goodies?) folder, find the plugin file, and then put it in your Photoshop installation folder (Plugins> File Formats).

Xnview did the job!
Thanks!
Is there a plugin to open Pixar .tex format in Photoshop too?
