View Full Version : Texporter missing some UVW maps!

I'm working on some weapon models for some PC game mods, and I've just recently moved away from the novice technique of applying planar UVW maps and adjusting the gizmo.

Here's my first UVW unwrapped weapon model -

But when I used texporter to export the map, a few parts were completely missing. I'm using 3dsmax5, and for the most part, my method of unwrapping was "flatten" followed by manually rearranging and welding contiguous parts together (stitching didn't seem to work well for me).

Any idea why this would happen? I assume that the UVW map is still complete, just Texporter is missing parts. I had to take a screen capture of the UVW unwrap window in 3dsmax and overlay it on the Texporter image to fill in the missing parts - not very convenient.

Any help would be appreciated.

did you check if your uvw map cover all the parts?
do they all face the same direction?

yes, in subobject mode of the uvw unwrap modifier, I can select all the faces of my uvw map, and my whole model turns red (with shade selected faces option).

do they all face the same direction?

Ah, good call, maybe those faces that texporter doesn't find are flipped? I'm not entirely sure how to flip them in the uvw unwrap window, maybe I have to delete and remap them.

Try and uncheck "Backface Cull" or "Hide backfaces" or whatever it might be called in Texporter. It's been a while since I've used Texporter, but I remember I usually had to uncheck a little checkbox to ensure all faces got onto the bitmap. By default texporter hides the faces it thinks are facing away (ie. inwards I guess, never visible).
