Hey all. Thanks to an anonymous tipster at TFW2005 (A Transformers News Site), there is a link to a video of what appears to be Transformers movie test footage from Industrial Light and Magic. This looks pretty interesting, from a previs standpoint. The character himself also appears to be Sideswipe, judging by the face and certain traits in his robot mode. You can check out the clip by clicking here (http://www.badongo.com/vid.php?file=Transformers+Movie+Test+Footage__2006-01-09_tffootage.mpeg&s=black). I don't believe this has been 100% confirmed that the clip is from ILM, but I'd imagine it is going by the "property of ILM" type below the screen, hee hee!

Thanks to John Doe for the news, taken from TFW2005.COM.

Awesome! downloads really slow for me, but looks great from what I can see. I just hope they have a script that doesn't suck.

Downloaded slow for me as well.
Looks awesome though. It appears they are headed in the right direction.

Honestly, I think it looks pretty good, but I'm not suprised in the slightest. If a Car Commercial can look this good. (http://www.devilducky.com/media/22272/) I'd hope ILM could do that or better for a movie. Personally I've been looking forward to this movie since I first heard about it awhile ago. But I think they are in a bit of a corner when it comes to making it. Die hard fans are gonna want a ton of stuff from gen 1, but it wouldn't translate too well. Ah well, here's hoping!

I agree Kico. Upon seeing the clip for the first time, I was surprised that they went for the more "boxy" look for the arms and legs of the robot, as opposed to the more realistic "loose parts" look for the Citroen commercial you linked to. By the way, the movie is downloadable for those of you who said it was taking its sweet time to play. I am a huge fan of G1, but if they keep that kind of character design, it might come across as too cartoony. Again, it's still early to tell. Here are some of the latest updates, taken from Don Murphy's (the film's producer) message board:

- the film is location scouting in Canada, the American Southwest, and Northeast. Not in Vancouver (for that tool who insisted we were). No I am not going to tell you where we are scouting. It won't matter until locations are locked.

- design preliminaries are going full steam ahead at last. No, there's nothing to show you yet.

- the latest redraft proceeds apace. Many changes to the second half I believe. Scaling back the number on each side probably back to the original 5 or 6 after they increased in number. Should have something this week or early next.

People are back in town and TF is a priority for myself, for Tommy D and for Hasbro and Dreamworks.

So there you have it. I'm really excited about this movie (And would LOVE to be working on it, but hey), I hope everyone involved will do it justice!

looks good so far!

Im nearly 32, so I grew up with Gen one TFs and would love to see it done that way!! I still watch the TF Movie every so often...I have it on DvD...and several episodes on my computer. Devestator though he came later on in gen one still stands proud on a shelf in my study.

Looks good so far ILM! Keep it up!

Turns out it's nothing to do with the production at all.

Cool though. :)

Agh. Imagine my embarassment! Good thing I put "Not 100% confirmed" in the original post to cover myself! Thanks for clarifying, JasTony! Still looked pretty damn good all the same. I wonder who's responsible?

I was about to say.. I think whoever would've leaked that out of ILM would've probably gotten arrested! Stuff like that doesn't usually sneak out of studios..

Sometimes it does leak, though many times it's not from the VFX houses themselves. It could be the post company, or marketing meetings, studio presentations, etc. Ep. 3 was infamous for that.

Yeah, I was prepared to accept it as early test footage myself. Although I thought it was a little too comic/cartoon faithful. A little too much armour and not enough mechanical goodness for my tastes. Plus the not-so-sexy car seemed a little off.

And I'm sure whoever made this is waiting for people's reaction before they own up to anything. Though I'd be suprised if they went through all that trouble just to walk away. ;)

I wonder if whoever made the bogus footage will ever come out of the woodwork. It's a good fake..... but what's the good in going to all that work just for something that people are going to disregard anyway when they find out it isn't real footage. Kind of lame

Didn't it seem wierd that you could see the film sprockets and labels but never saw a frame split. Plus it was missing the fourth perf mark (on the left in the green).

I have been out of film for a few years, am I wrong in thinking that this is not the normal way to watch a test? On film, especially with 3d added? We used to just pre-comp it on the avid and of coourse the perfs were never visible.

All in all, not bad. Animation was decent but a little stiff. Materials were good and the lighting wasn't bad. The comp was ok but the sight line was a bit off. Be interesting to see who did this. Wonder if they'll get wide recognition like some of the other big hoaxers out there.

Right... just as soon as everyone knows it was a hoax, people go ripping on it.

There is a major difference between a company putting out a test that isn't suposed to look good, only put together to find out if the animation of a transforming character works...and...a person putting together a finalized project to fool the masses. A test is exactly that. To test a specific piece of something to see if it works, not a finished piece. All the posts here were saying that it is great "FOR A TEST PIECE". Now people are saying it is a little lacking "FOR A FINAL PIECE". It is still both. We here in the community are a little reluctant to rip a piece that is a prelim test. Just look at all the flamers that rip a studio piece that is a year early in tests. I remember when people ripped The Incredibles in early stages. Saying it sucks and the lighting is so terrible. Where is it now after the test phase? The major difference is that this is now known as "not a test". Therefore it is not in a preliminary test and is now under more scrutiny. Major difference. I don't think anyone here has changed their position on it. They were just more cautious when it was thought to be a test. No one said it was bad. It was critiqued as being good with with some areas of improvement.

Perhaps it's all because we're "in the griiip of the evil UNICOOOORN!" :P

(TF the movie soundtrack=teh pwn) ^_^

Face it any live action adaptation is probably gonna annoy the hell out of G1 fans, but hell it will probably still be better than the last few Japanese series. (and coming from a dyed in the wool anime fan that means something.)

The evil Unicorn? Ahem, I believe it was the evil Unicron, thank you very much. *pushes nerd glasses up onto nose* :D

I am aware of that... But if you listen to the theme song from the movie... the guy clearly sings "evil unicorn" :D Which always makes me laugh my butt off.

I get this image in my head of a demonic "my little pony" with a horn :D

LOL yeah :buttrock: Come feel the noise!!

This was a pretty funny hoax, and actually rather well done too :) So what if it isn't perfect - the people who did this probably did it in a short space of time, and considering that many people did believe it was a real ILM test is testament to their efforts.
