Hi guys,
I need to recreate attached image for a client. I don't know where to start. I've played around with Hair Dept, I'm now tweaking with Jenna. Does anyone have any other ideas about how something like this should be modeled?

Wow, this seems really hard!

I think Jenna is going to be your best bet but I have not got it so I can't help.

Also try shave and hair-cut if you have the money for it.

yeah i agree with fxgogo, shave & a haircut could do that no problem

Thanks guys.
I think S&H would be good too, unfortunately we don't have it and its too long in the day to buy & learn - I now have 24 hours remaining!

I think what I'll do instead is use image maps and fake the whole thing. I will need to go in close to show some molecules on the surface of the concrete (these are cement hydration crystals for anyone that's interested!), but again I thing I can fake that with some simple geometry, as close-up you will see only a few individual crystals. Plus its for print so theres no animation.

I'm attaching what I've got so far. Its only WIP. Crits & suggestions really appreciated.

Cheers, DS

particle tracer, or TDEM (i think one of its tags allows for splines based on particle movement) should do the trick. traditional cinema particles only, not thinking particles here. (those plugs dont work with tp)

oh and that surface paint plugin might be able to do this if you were to paint a lot of "hairs" on the surface/

How about a close up pic of long grass or some kind of other grass etc which is growing wild and the blades all inter mingle, then de sat bleach with levels or contrast in PS,copy and paste some areas, rotate them and rubber stamp out any tiled looking areas.

Maybe even a Christmas tree branch might work as well.
