sweet... the ears look a bit funny (btw a mirrored version of the face isn't much useful now is it? ^_^)
Eugeny
11-28-2002, 09:13 AM
It's not so mirrored ... just compare small details. I have may be 10 poly that still symmetrical :)

Eugeny
12-15-2002, 09:29 AM
Thanx for the comments guys :)
How old is he supposed to be ?
The actor that used for the model is 45 - 50 years old ... I think my guy is bit yanger 40 - 45 ...

Great job!
The nose needs a little something, I think. It's to perfectly smooth, or something.

ooh...
nice going Eugeny. Really nice. I especially like the pockmarks on his cheeks. Nice definition around the eyes too.
crits:
the pockmark area seems to fade out. Maybe make it over a smaller area. he's got some on the chin folds - those could go.
the eyelids seem to be floating over his eyes - casting a heavy shadow.
the top of the ear (where it connects to the head) seems kinda weird.
The corner of his mouth is bothering me too.
And add some pores (BIG PORES :D ) on his nose.
and color variation, but you know that.
Eugeny
12-17-2002, 12:18 PM
Thanx for crits Sherban
I'm planing to take some graphic tablet from "Adventure" (my job) for some "short" time :)
Hope it's will help me to add some new details.

The skin color is much better but it seems like he has some nasty razor burn
Eugeny, when you re - model those awesome eyes press record on camtasia :buttrock: :wavey: :buttrock: :wavey:

Remodeled eyes ...
Damn i can't decide that is better, previous eyes (with small iris but with huge amount of personality) or these eyes (that technically more right modeled but without the personality) :hmm:
Kaiser - i use combination of Inside LW book technique and this (http://www.icreativesolutions.com/tuts/basiceye.htm) tutorial ... The only one think i added - it's one UV and one map for eyeball and iris ...

Awesome WIP so far, Eugeny
I must say, I prefer the first eyes :)
Have you added a spec map yet? Because you need to adjust the specularity on his lips. They should be a little shinier than the rest of the face. Also the tip of the nose and the areas just below the eyes tend to have a different specularity.
His cheeks - are those acne scars? If so, then the skin there should have more of a scarlike quality. Perhaps make the pitted areas slightly more shiny, and with a slightly white sheen on them.
The creases where his nostrils meet his cheeks needs a bit of work. If you look at most peoples faces, you'll notice that the skin in this area often tends to be a bit reddish in colour, and is also often quite dry and slightly pitted.
Add a gloss map to his eyelids to make them look wet ;)
Because this is a male, you should make the beard areas slightly rougher. This guy looks like he isn't very young, so his skin is likely to be pretty rough where he has been shaving for years and years. The pores in these areas are a bit larger and you should perhaps show some mild trace of a beard - a "9 o'clock shadow". Most mens faces will have a slightly uneven re-growth of hair within a few hours of shaving, since it is rather difficult to get a perfectly even shave.
These are just some ideas that I think will add nicely to your otherwise very cool WIP :)
He has great character - I love the expression!

First eyes. I like the little vein. But the reddish around the second eyes is cool but I would softent it abit, more progressive.
It's getting really good, keep up !:bounce:

Wow ! Thanx Leigh :) (finally u saw this :bounce: )
looks like i have lot of work on this dude ...
I don't have any idea how i can make skin looks more dry - secularity and glossiness ? I'm already use glossiness map but its the same map as specular so u right it's time to make new one (for cheeks and eye lids areas especially)
Facial - thanx for helping, i'll make new texture for previous eyes with more reddish ...
Thank u guys,
Eugeny.
Looks great! :bounce:
Very accurate to your references. Great great job. :)
The only thing to me is the creases along the eyebrow look too sharp to me, like chisel from wood. But it is not terrible.
Eugeny

The remodeled old eyes and glossiness map ... Also i changed the specular on lips and eye lids.

Hmm... to make the skin appear drier, I would use a combination of specularity, glossiness )these two being qauite subtle though), and a very very delicate use of bump. Making the bump map in these areas ever so slightly rougher will hopefully break up the light in such a way as to make it seem drier.
A tip: Having your gloss map and your spec map the same isn't a great idea. You are right that you should redo this, especially since gloss is quite a different effect ;)

great job so far.
try giving us some other angles..
i also think u need a better lighting setup. go see stlabherg (outch thats not write..) tutorial on 3dfestival.com. its great.
isn't his neck a bit too big??
element
hrm, it's getting better and better, but it looks like there's some texture streaching around his nose (near the nostril / cheek crease)
and his head's kinda chunky too, are you going to smooth that out a bit more?

It's easy to crit I know. Excellent work for a first attempt.
I can't see the mesh but Around the wrinklage on the forehead I would seperate the points abit to create a smoother more rounded effect. The wrinkles are little to sharp looking at the moment.
In addition, and I know it creates an effect, the upper eyelid looks like they doesn't fit the eyeball shape correctly. I would be tempted to pull it in abit to fit.
Just thoughts, other than that great work and keep at it.
Oh and maybe just abit of facial hair. Give sas a blast.

I'm work with two main angels (from left and right) - in this way mach more easy to see texture changes, the same thing for the light setup - because i 'm on texturing stage now i'm trying to not mess with different light setups - i use one key light (area) and 9 % ambient. Then the texturing will done i will put some other light testes (already i tested this dude with HDRI lighting looks great).
About a neck - the guy is bit fat and i'm not going to build the body - this piece of neck is that we will see then i complete his wear ( some heavy sweater and lather mail).

U damn right about the stretching - unfortunately i was needed to recreate his UV on Body Paint. See the pic on first page there i added some textures and bump maps, i was wondering why the hell maps not working , after hundreds of maps tweaking i fount that problem not in maps - it's broken UV. It was one point that placed aside from all UV's but contain all 2000 points data ! (i think it's happened after few unweld and merge operations ). :annoyed: So i decided to remodel UV on Body Paint using previous UV as a template, unfortunately its have some imperfections - that's why u see some stretches. There is nothing to do with this - may be i'll erase bump on this areas.
Can u describe that u mean chunky head ?

I think it's because the lighting ... Anyway it's too late to make changes for the mesh ( i don't wanna mess with UV's anymore).
About the eyelid - yes u right but if i make the eyelid fit the eyeball him looks sooo different , and him loose the personality (:thumbsdow ), so i decided to remodel the eyeballs but not the eyelids.
About a hair - yes i planing to make some brows and moustaches (may be) but only then i will be happy with textures.
Thanx for crits guys it's really help me

I still think the wrinkles betwen the eyebrows and on the forehead are a bit chiseled and sharp - but overall it's awesome.
