Title: Scarlet: A Study In Contrast - Stills From My Reel
Name: Tommy Zablan
Country: Canada
Software: SOFTIMAGE|XSI

In a previous post, Hvit_ravn asked why I opted for B&W. When I think about it...good question! It's partly because I initially visualize light intensity in terms of B&W tones.

I'm also a big fan of Edward Weston (as opposed to Ansel Adams who is...err...also very, very good..i.e. "Dramatic landscapes are great but they're just not complete without a figure study or some lushly toned flowery thing (or sexy pepper) in the composition" sort of thing.)

Image above is a less dramatic (i.e. less wide, less acute camera angle)/ more classical composition. Color vs. B&W version supplied for conversation.

Thanks in advance.

I feel that Black and white allow for more control over the image outcome, by allowing less choice. Colour can be difficult to apply, in respect to the mood and meaning of the piece. This can be seen when reviewing older episodes of Doctor Who, as the series moved to Colour from Black and White, the visual aspect became more playful in theme and colour, and many would say that the show lost some of its serious regards thanks to a sometimes immature application of colour.

Colour brings mood and tempo to visual outcome. In a black and white application, there is control by restricting the use of colour, instead the communicating elements of the piece becoming the forms and light.

Of course there is always the correct application of colour and contrast, which results stronger outcomes.

nice color in your backdrop, you should use em more to light up your scene, way too dark and doesn't match so far, adding some detailing to your textures, some bump and displacements would help making it look better also. Water is off, that reflection is wrong.
