almost 100 views and nobody knows? ...quite sad really, i am sure most ppl here are real good with maya and none can take the time to help me out. :annoyed: :thumbsdow
um . folds are quite hard to model so taht it turns out exactly the way you want . examine the wireframes on the joan of arc figure closely and model closely to it and you'll achieve it . takes a lot of practice . and i know i'm probably not helping too much but . just wanted to reply with something .
also . if you post this within the modeling section . there will be many modelers who'll be willing to help .

find some reference picture of cloth/folds. The wiretool can help you out... after finished with the wires.... use the artisan brush to smooth/blend some parts.
Or buy the unlimited version of maya.... or buy the Syflex cloth sim. ;)

If it was nurbs it might be easier. But Im not trashing your modeling choice, I use polys alot. Try using the selection tools more effectively, especially select contigious edges option. The real reason your folds are not coming out well is your edges are spaced too evenly. The cardinal rule for modeling is; If you want a sharper (or tighter, in your case) edge, you need to place more edges closer together. If you model a corner with only 3 edges(for example) when it gets smoothed, Maya will average the distances, for a smoother curve. So you may need to put the egdes closer together, or add more edges. It just takes patience and effort.
