"The Google Video Store will be the first open video marketplace enabling consumers to buy and rent a wide range of video content from a major television network, a professional sports league, cable programmers, independent producers and filmmakers. The announcement was made live at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. "

Google president Larry Page's keynote at the CES convention was much anticipated. In the end, it was a bit of a let down, as he gave little detail about his plans for an online video store. We don't know what format the videos will be in. We don't know what copy restrictions may or may not be involved.

I don't know what they mean by "the first open video marketplace". Sounds like Google's PR machine came up with that one. I don't think any of these online music/video stores are in any way "open".
