Heyas everyone (geez I'm addicted to this forum , have to get going with modeling, not reading the forum all day long ;) )

Is the book "Maya 4 Fundamentals" a good book? Has anyone read it? I'm thinking of buying it, but I'm not sure if it's worth it, because some books really stink (thou I don't think this one do).

What kind of stuff is it teaching you?

hi Veqtue

maya 4 fundamentas in a great book if you have no previous experience with maya. its clearly written and have useful tutorials that'll get you up to speed with maya's modelling and animation tools. It also covers everything from paint effects to dynamics.

the book also has two sections that are aimed for users who are switching to maya from 3d studio max or lightwave. these sections describe how the workflow differs compared to those packages, really useful chapters!

There'll be a more in depth review coming up on cgchannel soon.

hope that helps

that is the book i got because i knew nothing about maya. I have gone a lot of the way through it and it is a great book. Everything you learn in the book is usefull. You can get a summary of it from the alias website. BTW the book is from alias so that is the best thing about it.

Isn't the Alias|Wavefront book called "Learning Maya 4.0"? I don't think Maya 4.0 Fundamentals is made by Alias.
