TBH Im not even sure what a wacom is... But I would like to know what you use and wether you would recommendit.

I have tried searching the forum and a thread like this hasnt been brought up before.

I want a tablet to help me with sketches etc.

I would just like any information that you can provide, the different types, which one you have, which you think I should buy, whats the differences in price and functionality.

Thanks

@ kalyse
i have a old wacom (seriell) A4, get it from my father... for sketches i like to have much space... like on paper.. scribble here and there ;)

i would advise you to buy a A4 or A3... but the price of a new wacom is very high...
I know that wacom is one of the best (or the best) tablet company...

there are different models of wacom...
but it's your decision...

I've got a Wacom Intuos2 6x8 Platinum, only used it once though. Trying to get rid of it :(

I have an Intuos 3 A5.

Seems fine for my needs so far. Although, saying that; I have hardly used it, considering the time I've had it for already. :(

Here, my friend, be the link where the elusive Wacom doth reside:
http://www.wacom.com/index2.cfm

I have a Wacom Intuous 3 6x8 tablet and I heartily recomend it for anyone who works in Photoshop, ZBrush, Painter or any software that responds to different levels of stroke pressure. I consider it a must for precise sculpting effects in ZBrush or for painting realistic textures in Photoshop. If possible, try before you buy.

I use Intuos3 A5.

Actually there are quite a few threads on this topic; I'm surprised you haven't found any. Try searching for "wacom", "tablet", or "intuos".

Give something like this (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6765693.htm) a go first, if you have no experience with tablets.

Once you've had a play for a couple of months, and gotten used to using the pen instead of the mouse, I would advise you then spend the extra on a professional Wacom. After using this smaller, cheaper variant, you should also then be able to judge what would be the ideal size for your own needs and budget.

The last thing you want to do, is immediately buy a Wacom, and hate the whole experience.

I'm with L.Rawlins about trying a cheaper solution first. But Wacom also sells the Volito. It isn't that expensive and in my opinion a better option than the Trust. I myself have a Graphire 2 A6. But because I'm mainly a video-editor I don't use the tablet that much.

How does the use of a tablet mix with a dual screen setup? I wonder if the tablet is loosing about half of its accuracy this way?

Dual screen seems to work for me. I don't really get the feeling that I have less resolution on my trusty old Intuos2. You could always adjust the settings so that it uses only 1 screen, but since I have all my Pshop tools on the second screen, that won't work for me.
Then again, I've always had 2 screens. Never used a Wacom on a single screen system, so perhaps I'm used to having less resolution.

At work I have an Aiptek (http://www.aiptek.com/) 9x12 which is a cheaper alternative to Wacom. Personally I feel like my Wacom at home is a higher quality product, but I agree with previous posters that you should get a cheaper alternative first (I have no complaints about the Aiptek, I just think the Wacom is better).

I'm using a Wacom Intous3 A4 (both at home and at work), and I wouldnt bother checking out other vendors as most of then doesn't even come close to the quality of wacom. There is a thread in the hardware section about "graphire or intous" where I recommended that if you can swing the extra cost a Intous will be the better buy, and a tablet is not as other computer hardware that gets "old" quickly.
If you are a Linux person (like me) then the wacom board is also the better option.

Do a search on ebay also, there are cheap used Intous2 and Intous3 floating around.
