playblast with your maya color settings altered so that your background is black and instead of green for object color choose white or whatever color you want your wires to be and then composite it in afterfx or some post package with mulitply or some layering effect that you like.

a basic wireframe shader for mental ray.. I guess someone gave up on waiting for such a thing from Alias and made it themselves.. welldone that person

there is also some plugin versions you can get for maya ..polyData and nurbsData which allow you to render the wireframe just you have to pay for those ones.
