View Full Version : Deform : Blend shape disaster!

Good day to all,

I have attached the scene file so that u can follow clearly.

Bascially I created 2 variations of a character (one with an eye half closed another with it fully closed). They way they were created was by duplicating the original (both eyes opened) followed by extracting one eye and then "combine and merge edge" the extracted closed or half closed eye from another model (I made the mistake of creating both eyes closed or half opened, now I am trying to make it one eye at a time)

But when I tried to create a Blend Shape between these two similar (same number of vertices.) models the base MOVES to the position of the target! and it's mesh is totally messed up in the process! How do I fix it!?

I am totally lost!
Thanks for your kindess

I opened your file and the blend went mental. Your vertex number must be messed when you were creating the blend shape. I did howver delete the blendshape. I duplicated the base mesh and created one with the eye half closed. When I created a blend with that it worked fine.

You cannot alter the mesh in anyway buy adding v's or edges etc despit the fact that it may be symetrical.

I would save you a copy of the file I created but I am using 4.5 so you won't be able to open it.

this problem can be solve .. yes .. no need to re-do your blend shapes..

how ?

re-numbering the vtx ID's .. :buttrock:

but how ?

:bounce:

Reconstruct Mesh Tool v1.0, u can get it from highend3d -> maya -> plugins

but,

first, why u have this problem ? it means that your work-flow is not clean..
check www.geocities.com/firas3d/smartvtx -> its a mel i did to easy my work when i do facial expersion modeling

tell me if i am helping ?

Firas - Hehe, I saw your works and I love them!! :) somehow highend seems to be down lately, but I have downloaded and am trying your plugin :buttrock: From your description it sounds like a real handy tool to have :applause:

Firas - after I unzipped your file it seems there are 2 mels in there, smartVtx.mel and smuWin.mel . I am also new to mel scripts (I just started 3d graphics, not to mention Maya!) but it seems that smartVtx is the newer one. However you have yet to update the "scriptname", "install" and "usage" description at the top, and the settings (next to help) didn't seem to be in use.

just thought I'd let you know :)

Sorry Firas, but I can't seem to get your script to work.
I just could not load the symmetric object, even when I tried with a poly cube it gives "Warning: 4 not found vtx, make sure your model is centered, or symmetrical".
