i got the problem with my maya mental ray
the script follow

is about the hareware problem or the software setting problem? thankx a lot

As far as I know Mental Ray uses system memory to render frames. So if you have an intense scene and lack the memory to render it.... well Mental Ray will fail. I have stopped using Mental Ray simply because of this. I use WinXP and I have about 640 MG of RAM, and even with simple scenes it crashes...taking Maya with it. I suggest you put at least 1 Gig of Ram if not more because Mental Ray's calculations do take up a good chunk of memory. To give you an idea, Maya itself takes up about 120 Megs of Ram on my system. WinXP takes up a good 200 or so. Plus any programs running. With 640 Mgs.... that leaves little room for a Mental Ray render, at least in MY experience.
i also faced this kind of problems on my Audi TT NURBS project, and the solution was to change the:
1. memory limit setting to a lower value
2. the BSP settings (or even put Large BSP instead of BSP)
yet changing these slowed down the rendering, but at least it's worked :)
