CGTalk - Railroad track duplication

Hi
I was wondering how to duplicate a mesh end over end, for example a rail road track section with crossties , then at the end extend the track to keep the track going?
Without dragging and welding points?

I`m not sure did I get your point but,
clone object> move object> set number of clones.
