View Full Version : Shape animation woes
donShole 01-06-2006, 10:17 PM Hi there blenderheads,
I haven't used blender shape animation(vertex keys) for literally years. So, I'm not sure how to use the current shape animation interface. I want to do regular vertex key (not relative) animation to blend from one shape to the next. I've created my shapes, but there is no "speed" ipo curve button in the shapes ipo window. So how do I do a simple shape to shape animation? Thanks in advance:).

Add the first Shape Key, it'll give you a shape called Basic. Go into Edit mode and fiddle till you get the shape you want it to turn into. Add second Shape Key and name it then Tab into Object mode. On frame 1 grab the slider for the named Shape and set it at 0.00. Goto frame 250 (or whatever) and grab the slider again and move it to 1.00. Shft-LeftArrow and Alt-A.

Thanks for answering fligh. That works fine for 2 shapes, but I have 4. Also the sliders are only present when in relative vertex key mode. Furthermore trying to create my own ipo curves has no effect at all.:argh:. I guess I'll have to fire up an older version of blender (not sure how far back I'll have to go). I thought this interface was supposed to be easier to use.

it is easier to use, your're just not approaching it the best way.
create your shapes first. then use guitargeek's widget maker script (included with 2.40) to make the controls that will allow you to easily blend between different shapes, then keyframe the widgets.

So let me get this straight, the work flow is:
1) create shapes
2) create a widget for each shape
3) animate and key widgets
That worked. Thanks, I'd never have guessed/dreamt up step 2.
