Does anyone know what this means...

My computer will render with Maya 7's software renderer, yet when I go to start a batch render, it tells me it is unable to find an available port.... any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks again...

Sounds like you're having troubles with a firewall that blocks the ports that the batch renderer needs. So try to disable it.
